From the Inside Out and the Outside In is an ongoing body of work that explores the lived realities of island life and the complex relationships between isolation, connection, movement and belonging. Through drawing, video and sculpture, the exhibition considers the continual exchange between inner experience and the outside world, between what is felt, remembered and imagined, and what is encountered through landscape, community and everyday journeys. The works reflect the networks, exchanges and acts of reciprocity that sustain island communities. Across the exhibition, boundaries, between island and mainland, visibility and obscurity, and those explored in Routes/ Roots I & II, emerge as both physical and psychological thresholds. Beneath these encounters lie less visible forms of connection: infrastructures and currents that quietly shape everyday life, complicating ideas of separation and self-sufficiency. The exhibition includes a new work, Across the Divide, which extends this exploration. Together, the selected works invite viewers to consider island identity not as fixed or enclosed, but as something continually shaped through movement, exchange and relationship.
