The Green Rope project is a social sculpture by the artist William Bock. The sugán rope, an ancient tool, is in this project reappropriated as a means for human and ecological connection. It offers a tacit space for conversation, creativity and empathy.
William Bock is an interdisciplinary Irish artist working internationally. Bock’s practice delves into the experiences of living between cultures, landscapes and identities. The Green Rope Project has taken place so far on Sherkin Island, Skibbereen Art Centre, Earth Rising at Museum of Modern Art Dublin, ISE Congress in Marrakech, Arthouse Jersey to name a few. The artist has recently worked on Dinnseanchas, a Hometree Commissioned island wide project working with Upland communities and is commissioned artist for an Research Ireland funded public art and citizen science ecology project in County Mayo launching in August 2025.
