7 Islands Art Exhibition.

Bere Island Arts Festival are inviting artists from the 7 Islands of West Cork (Bere Island, Long Island, Dursey Island, Whiddy Island, Oileán Chléire, Sherkin Island and Heir Island) to submit work for this year’s arts festival which runs from the 19th – 22nd September 2024. This is a jury selected exhibition and successful candidates will be notified by email no later than July 31st.

  • Please read carefully

    • Artists, from or connected with any of the 7 islands of West Cork listed above are invited to submit painting, drawing, print, mixed-media, photography, and sculpture. The artwork should be an original one-off or an editioned piece.

    • Each artist may submit one piece of work.

    • All artworks must be for sale.

    • All wall-mounted works must be framed (we would recommend simple, plain framing in white, black, grey or wood) or ready for presentation with hooks and cords. If using hooks, the hooks must be inserted flush with the back of the frame and not protruding.

    • It is the responsibility of the artist to ensure that the work submitted is presented to a normally acceptable standard. We reserve the right not to hang work deemed not presented to an acceptable standard.

    • Click HERE to print and complete the label that must be securely attached to the back of 2D works and the underside of 3D works.

    • All work must be submitted between Friday 6th and Tuesday 10th September between 11am and 4pm to the Drill Hall, East End, Bere Island. Artists will be asked to unpack their work once logged, attach a label to the front of the work, and bring their wrapping material away with them.

    Islanders that are living full time on any of the 7 islands may contact the Bere Island Arts Festival committee on bereislandartsfestival@gmail.com should they find it difficult to drop off or collect the work in person so that we can help them make alternative arrangements. Please note, Bere Island Arts Festival will not be responsible for any damages caused to the artwork should it be delivered to the island by a third party.

    • Submission fee for all artworks €10 (non-refundable). Bere Island Arts Festival is a non for profit voluntary organisation. All funds raised will be put back into the festival. Please note that if you are not in a position to make this payment, it will not impact your entry.

  • The following information must be submitted by email to bereislandartssubmissions@gmail.com by 8th June.

    1. Please state your connection to your Island.

    2. Artist’s Statement which must not exceed 120 words by answering the following questions:

    • What subject matter is the focus of your work / what inspires you in your work and why?

    • What materials/media do you use to make your work?

    • What is the one thing that you would like to tell people about you as an artist or your work?


    • Where can we see more information about you and your work? (web address, Instagram, Facebook etc)



    3. Caption for your work in the following sequence: Artist’s name, title of work, medium, dimensions in centimetres, and list price in euro. (Please note it may not be possible to hang all large scale works or installations due to venue limitations)

    4. You may also submit a good quality image of your work with caption for promotion purposes.

    Please make payment of the 10 euro submission fee to Bere Island Arts Festival IE39AIBK93627810304087. (Artist’s name to be used as reference). Please note that if you are not in a position to make this payment, it will not impact your entry.

    Commission on sales will go to the Bere Island Arts Festival, rate of 25% on the sale price. Payments to artists will be made by the end of October 2024.

    Bere Island Arts Festival is a non for profit voluntary organisation. All funds raised will be put back into the festival.

    Hanging / placing arrangements are at the sole discretion of BIAF. Selection will be based on the work submitted; no substitutions may be made later.

    The utmost care will be taken of all work submitted, but BIAF will not be responsible for any damage, loss of, or destruction to any work for any reason whatsoever. Any insurance should therefore be effected by the artist against all risks.

    All unsold work must be collected from the Drill Hall, Bere Island between Tuesday 24th and Sunday 29th September ONLY between 11.00am and 4.00pm. Artists are asked to bring their wrapping materials with them to reuse and cut down on waste. BIAF will not supply any packing/wrapping materials.

    Due to lack of storage facilities, YOUR COOPERATION ON COLLECTION IS ESSENTIAL.

    Participation in the exhibition implies acceptance of the above conditions.

    Please note: The art exhibition is open to the 7 West Cork Islands and to those who have roots on these Islands ONLY
